Action: Give feedback on Portland Police oversight

This month, five events will be held to take feedback on issues related to the Portland Police Bureau and their interactions with the public, including people with disabilities and mental illness. One event will take input on the reforms outlined in a settlement with the US Department of Justice. The other four events will take input on the goals of the City of Portland Independent Police Review. Specific details about each event is provided in the table below.

On Tuesday, April 25, the AMA Coalition for Justice and Police Reform will hold a public forum in NE Portland. The forum will take input on the Settlement Agreement with the US Department of Justice, and the latest draft Compliance Report on the City’s progress in implementing reforms. DRO is a member of the AMA Coalition. The Settlement Agreement addressed the use of force when the police are responding to a person in mental health crisis. Two members of the COCL team from Chicago have committed to attending the forum.

On April 15, 19, 25, and 28, the Independent Police Review (IPR) will host listening sessions across Portland to hear your reflections on the current and future goals of IPR. They will also accept comment by mail, email, and voicemail. IPR is responsible for oversight of the Portland Police Bureau.  They want your voices at the table as they plan how to focus limited resources, time, and attention in police oversight. Here is information about their current and possible future goals.  You can 503-823-014 if you need accommodations or interpreters for the events or if you need this information in an alternate format.
