Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology (AT) is any item, equipment, or system that increases, maintains, or improves functional capabilities of people with disabilities.

AT allows people to be more independent, navigate their community, and live a full life. This includes anything from being able to move around the home, communicate, go to work, attend school, or vote.

Some examples of assistive technology are:

Wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, or canes
Braille and Braille displays, magnifiers, or text-to-voice and voice-to-text software
Letter boards or picture communication boards
Augmentative communication devices including modified keyboards
shower chairs or therapeutic beds
Any equipment or product system that a medical provider has recommended to overcome limitations experienced by a person with a disability
