Assistive Technology (AT) is any item, equipment, or system that increases, maintains, or improves functional capabilities of people with disabilities.

Some examples of assistive technology are:

  • Wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, or canes

  • Braille and Braille displays, magnifiers, or text-to-voice and voice-to-text software

  • Letter boards or picture communication boards

  • Augmentative communication devices including modified keyboards

  • shower chairs or therapeutic beds

  • Any equipment or product system that a medical provider has recommended to overcome limitations experienced by a person with a disability
