Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is the highest governing body of Disability Rights Oregon. To satisfy its fiduciary duties under U.S. and Oregon law, the Board is responsible for:
determining the mission and purposes of the organization
ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
fundraising and resource development
approving and monitoring the organization’s priorities, programs and services
enhancing the organization’s public image
assessing the performance of the Executive Director, who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation
assessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization
Our Mission
Promote and defend the rights of individuals with disabilities.
Job Requirements of a Board Member
The Board meets six times per year, in the evening. Board members are expected to attend in person. Further, all Board members are expected to attend a one-day orientation and annual Board retreat.
Job Requirements for Board members:
know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements
serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission
help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing, and can influence public policy
prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
participate fully in one or more committees
Further, board members are expected to:
follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings
maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization
donate or solicit a donation to the organization an amount that is meaningful

If you are interested in serving on Disability Rights Oregon's Board of Directors, please complete this application in its entirety by December 10. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Disability Rights Oregon selects Board members between November and December for membership on the Board beginning in January.
