Michael Tom

Michael brings more than 25 years of experience in employment law, civil rights investigations and trainings, litigation, affirmative action planning, and diversity, equity, and inclusion leadership to his role as Board member. He is the founder and owner of Portland-based Workplace Investigations & Trainings, which conducts independent, neutral workplace investigations for employers and their employees.
Prior to establishing his consulting business, he served as Director of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity (AAEO) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). He co-led the University's Diversity Advisory Council and the Physical Access Committee that focused on supporting the disability community. He successfully led OHSU's AAEO team from 2011 through 2016, supervising investigations into all aspects of employment law and civil rights concerns. During his time at OHSU, he also co-founded Night for Networking, an annual event that brought employers and people with disabilities together for networking and employment opportunities.
For more than a decade, Michael litigated on behalf of and advised clients as a private practice attorney, licensed in Oregon. He earned his J.D. and certificate of Alternative Dispute Resolution from Willamette University and his B.A. from the University of Washington.
